As you probably all know by now, Unit of Study Outlines are supposed to give you a quick rundown of what you'll be studying in the subject, what and when your assessments are, and other important stuff. Why would anyone want to read this in week 1? Well you've got until the census date to drop a subject and then not pay the government for it. So you'll want to know early on if it's your cup of tea or not.
All great, but there are a few flaws with this system...
1. You don't usually get the UoS Outline in advance, so if for whatever reason you skip week 1, like, to extend your trip to Europe for example, that means you have very little time to get a clue and make up your mind about keeping the subject or not.
2. UoS outlines explain your learning outcomes, what is expected of you, how grades are calculated, and other stuff like that, but they aren't always straightforward about WHAT you will actually study, especially if a large amount of esoteric academic jargon is necessary.
Our solution? Enter the INSIDER'S Unit of Study Outline. This is a brief one page written by someone who's been there telling you WHAT the substance of the class was, what's involved skills-wise, a few of the pros and cons in their opinion, what they liked, what they wish they had done differently, and any hints or tricks to help you out with the unit. Remember these are unofficial and designed to give you an extra clue based on previous student experiences....they are NOT the official UoS outlines, so don't take them as gospel, especially because subjects change slightly year to year.
We'll be putting these up as fast as we can write them!
